We have here a large bowl with an ornate machine tooled frame and a hand painted porcelain center. It is unmarked, but we believe it to be German. It is obviously from the 19th century. The plate at the center bears a lovely portrait of a young farm wife churning butter while her baby girl feeds bread to a bird. The colors are vibrant and the effect charming. Measures 11 1/4" diameter x 2 7/8" tall; 4 1/4" diameter foot; 6" diameter center plate.
The porcelain plate is in excellent condition. We have cleaned the metal frame, but there is still some discoloration and verdi gris which might respond to metal cleaner. The front is good-looking and could be displayed as it is; however, the back needs a bit of attention.
(We have another bowl that matches this one, but with a different picture. Please take a look!)
