These are charming, a children’s plate and bowl set made by restaurant china maker, Shenango. The small plate features a chubby little boy who looks like he's ready to kiss a chubby little girl whose doll he is holding. Border of plate shows various nursery rhyme characters in delightful renditions, Georgie Porgie, Jack and Jill et al. The small bowl bears different groupings of the characters, adding (we think), Pease Porridge Hot at center. Outer edges of bowl show Simple Simon and the Pieman. Both pieces are trimmed in bright green.
Bowl measures 4” across rim by about 1” high. Plate is 5 3/8” wide x 3/4” high.
Mark on undersides of both pieces is outline of a Native American potter in green with Shenango China / Newcastle, PA underneath, all under glaze. Mark was used from 1920s-early 1950s. Uncoded. Both pieces also marked with a letter O under the glaze in green.
There is a bit of very light wear to a couple of the transfers. There seems to be a transfer break in front of the face of the boy on center of plate; but it doesn't affect the integrity of the picture. Both pieces are in excellent condition with no scratches, chips, cracks or crazing. They are just adorable.
