Impressive Royal Winton 2-piece covered cheese or butter dish, in the discontinued Victorian Rose chintz pattern of red roses, yellow rose buds and forget-me-nots. Six inch square tray with wide scalloped rim, and square cover with finial. Inner and outer tray edges are trimmed in gold enamel, as is the cover's square finial, adorned with a single yellow rose. Lid is 3 5/8" square and 2 5/8" tall to top of the finial. Plate center is white, and is heavily crazed, with some discolored lines (see photo close up), and there's a glaze skip on gold edging of plate (photo 4). There is light crazing on both pieces in chintz covered areas, and the chintz pattern on one side of on the lid was applied awkwardly near the bottom edge (see photo 4). No chips, cracks, or other damage.
Royal Winton marks circa 1934 to 1940s (Royal Winton Company web site), and also stamped in gold 1953 for Registration in Canada. This pattern may have been made for the Canadian market.
