We have here a sweet little pewter plate with a molded bamboo border and recessed center. Piece measures 6” in diameter. This is American pewter called Armatale, developed by Wilton and approved by the FDA in the early 1960s.
The underside is impressed with a copyright mark and Wilton - Columbia, PA. USA, as well as RWP (for Ralph Winton Pewter) within a circle. There’s also a British-style metal mark which shows a lit candle in a recessed oval. RWP mark with Columbia dates this piece to 1963-1970. All of Wilton’s products are individually cast and hand-finished; all are made of a solid piece of the aluminum alloy, Armetale, and are not plated.
Underside had three non-skid pads which we removed. We used a non-toxic metal polish and a vegetable based goo remover to clean, leaving any additional cleaning to new owner. (Darkening of recesses in bamboo design is attractive, but could be cleaned.) Light surface wear to center of plate.
Condition is excellent for vintage soft metal. Very attractive and reminiscent of Colonial table ware.
