Here we have a lovely figurine called "Mary, Mary" depicting a happy little girl tending her garden. The piece is from a series of little girl figurines made by Muller Volkstedt Irish Dresden. Each figurine is carefully sculpted, hand painted with delicate expressive facial features, and each is finished in a combination of matte and glaze. All are adorned with pink dress cuffs of real Dresden lace.
Muller Volkstedt, an old family name among makers of Dresden ware, fled East Germany to escape Soviet rule, settling in Dromcolliher, County Limerick, Ireland in 1962. There they continue to make fine Dresden porcelain figurines. They still used the name of their old home town, Volkstedt, as well as the crown mark with MV in a diamond shape, adding Irish Dresden in script underneath. They used this mark until 1987 when they replaced the crown with a shamrock. The pieces here, with the crown mark, were made between 1962 and 1987.
Condition is excellent, with no flaws or damage of any kind.
