Here is the lovely Royal Winton Grimwades square chintz jam pot set in the discontinued Summertime pattern, with lid and underplate. There’s a little square finial to the lid; that and all surfaces are covered with the brilliant Summertime array of red roses and other colorful garden flowers. All three pieces are edged with gold enamel. The set measures 3 ½” tall to the finial, while the compote alone is 2 5/8” square x 2 ½” tall. The lid is 2 7/8” square; the underplate measures 4 5/16” square.
The underside of the jam pot is signed in green, Royal Winton in a circle ending with a flourish and a large letter A. Inside the circle is Grimwades Made in England. Summertime is stamped on as is a large letter R, both in blue. There’s a tiny letter x or y in gold ink, probably a decorator's mark. On the underside of the plate is the same green backstamp with a blue dot. The pattern number, 775 is in gold ink. The Summertime pattern was made from 1932 until 1960 when it was discontinued.
The condition of this set is excellent with only the crazing which is expected in old chintz and a minor bit of interior discoloration (shown). There are no cracks, scratches or chips. This is a beauty!
