We’re offering this cheerful and artful hand painted demitasse set from Royal Copenhagen. The cup has a nosegay of wildflowers on one side and a single blossom on the other while the saucer sports three delicately drawn single flowers. The flowers are red, blue, purple and yellow and there’s a band of mint green around the saucer’s edge which is echoed inside the rim of the cup. The cup and saucer are ringed with gold enamel at their edges and the gold is repeated on the cup just above its small pedestal and again on the pointed handle. The effect is elegant but jaunty.
Both pieces are marked with the Royal Copenhagen blue waves under the glaze and with their green mark of Royal Copenhagen encircling a crown with Denmark underneath, also under glaze. The years of manufacture are encoded in the green marks: on the cup there’s a dot over the L to signify 1939. On the saucer a dot over the A in Royal means made in 1938. Both pieces also bear the decorators’ initials, chx and the numbers, 8 998 9535. Both pieces are in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, scratches or crazing. This is a truly sweet little set.
