We’re offering this wonderful German cobalt-edged floral charger hand painted and signed by the artist. The wide cobalt blue border is sculpted with raised roses and leaves all highlighted in gold enamel. There are four hand painted cartouches on the border each adorned with brilliantly colored anemones and surrounded with gold enamel scrollwork. The pure white center of the platter boasts a large bouquet of anemones in pink, purple and orange with rose buds and cornflowers, also hand painted, all inside a double ring of gold enamel. Made in Plaue, Thuringia by von Schierholz, the mark on underside is a stylized PMP (Plaue / Manufactory / Porcelain) under a crown with 1817, the date the porcelain works was founded, with von Schierholz underneath. This mark was used from 1974 until 1990. Underside is signed in gold by the artist, R. Bittersmann.
The charger measures 12” in diameter x 1 3/8” high and is pierced through the table ring for hanging (shown). It is in perfect condition with no cracks, chips, scratches, stains or crazing. (Light places are from the flash.) This is truly beautiful!
