We are offering a demitasse set of four hand painted Limoges fine porcelain cups and saucers made by Charles Field Haviland. Each piece is unique, painted with flowers, birds and butterflies in a remarkable array of delicate colors. Although no two pieces are alike, they are unified by rich garlands of flowers on the cups which wrap all the way around. Saucers are edged with gold enamel and each has a floral spray on one side curving nearly half the width of the dish, and a bird or butterfly opposite. Cups have a double edge of gold enamel at rim and a single gilded edge at foot; the handles all are adorned with three fine lines of gold enamel. The translucent porcelain cups measure 3” across the brim to end of handle x 2 ¼” tall. The saucers are 4 5/16” in diameter.
Each piece is signed over the glaze on the underside with Ch. Field Haviland Limoges between two concentric circles in blue (Mark 3; 1859-1881) and CFH in green under the glaze (Mark 2; 1868-1881). So the set was manufactured between 1868 and 1881 and hand painted by Haviland's own decorators (Gaston p.151).
They are in excellent condition with one tiny speck from the making on one cup (photo 1, lower left). There are no chips, cracks, scratches, crazing or any other kind of damage.
This is an elegant set of antique Haviland Limoges fine porcelain, just right to grace your table or collection.
