This tall, stately glass ewer is typical of Murano glass of the mid-twentieth century, combining the use of bullicante (controlled bubbles) and aventurine (imbedded flecks of bright metal).
Sculpted upward from a heavy base, this gorgeous pink art glass ewer features controlled bubbles drawn out to long ovals inside the walls, and flecks of imbedded gold floating with them. This pink layer with oval bubbles and flecks of gold is coated with a layer of clear glass. The glass was drawn from the sturdy base to form a slender neck culminating in a handle and spout which resemble an open lily. The piece is hand-blown with a cut-and-polished pontil. Unsigned, it measures 10 ½” tall.
In the center of the polished base next to the pontil mark there are two flea bites (last photo) and, when rubbing one’s hands over the clear glass surface of the piece, there are areas with an invisible grainy feel. We think that neither of these factors affect the beauty or quality of this stunning item. But because of them, we have set the price quite low.
