This is a charming old piece of majolica evocative of 19th century storybooks. An 18th century-style country girl in yellow mob cap, pale turquoise empire line frock, purple shoes and purple reticule stands next to an oval-shaped green bowl embossed with pink flowers. Inside of bowl is turquoise. Lovely majolica finish and bright, bold colors.
Probably German mid to late 19th century. Underside impressed with numbers 10178; also bears inked number 8. Figure stands 4 7/8” tall; overall length is 6”. Some crazing to interior of bowl; none to outside or bottom. There’s a stray bit of purple paint and two bits of excess glaze also in bottom of bowl from manufacturing process. There is no damage of any kind. Gorgeous for collectors of majolica.
