Here is a beautiful antique cobalt blue Limoges cup and saucer set by Jean Pouyat. The color is the deepest cobalt blue with the whitest of white background and trim. The shape of both cup and saucer is quatrefoil, or four petal. The cup ring in the saucer is white as is the whole underside of the saucer and the inside of the cup; the handle, rim of cup and edge of saucer all are flow blue.
The saucer measures 5 1/8" diagonally x 4 1/2" from side to side. The dainty cup is 2 5/8" tall x 2 1/2" across rim.
Both pieces are signed on the underside with Pouyat's underglaze white ware mark in green: initials J. P. underscored over L. (for Jean Pouyat, Limoges). This mark was used from 1862 to the early 1900s.
White spots on the cobalt surfaces are from the flash. This set is in perfect condition.
