This sweet and pensive little hand painted Pierrot figurine holds his lute at his side as he leans on the ruins of an old wall. (The wall curves around at the side to form a small vanity dish, photo 2.) He is dressed all in white with a big ruff collar, brick red buttons and shoes and a glossy black hat which covers his hair except for a few stray locks. His hair and features are delicately painted, with a sweet little mouth and piercing black eyes; his lute and the base of the wall are opalescent yellow. All paint is under the glaze.
This piece measures 3 5/8" tall x 2" wide. Incised Germany and 15391 at base on the back. There are some illegible marks and light scuffing on the unglazed underside.
We believe this little Pierrot to date from the 1890s - 1910s. It is in excellent condition.
