A Chinese bronze temple gong, made in the Ming Dynasty style with mark of the Xuande Emperor (15th century). The bell having a kylin form hanging loop, cylindrical body with floral banding and kylin motifs and cast with the inscription, “Made in the Emperors name, Ming Dynasty – Your marriage will be recorded for ever.” Held in a carved wood frame.
Size: 210 mm (bell), 395 mm (frame).
Providence: Previously belonged in the collection of Keith Blumgart who was a member of the American Bell Collectors’ Association and held the 3rd largest collection of bells worldwide outside of museums. This bell has been shown in various exhibits of his collection throughout the world.
