Crafted around the year 1900, this wonder Scottish Pebble brooch is set with dark green bloodstone and bright orangish brown jasper. The old silver pops against the stones and is decorated with Victorian designs. A wonderful unisex antique brooch to add to your collection!
Scottish pebble jewelry was trendy during the Victorian era and was constructed from natural agates and granites found along the roads, stream beds, and shoreline. Pieces are typically adorned with Scottish symbols and themes such as thistles, stags, and celtic crosses. When Queen Victoria purchased Balmoral Castle in Scotland and Sir Walter Scott's novels' popularity, the interest in all things Scottish exploded.
The pin is in very good antique condition with minimal signs of wear. The silver has fine lines and marks typical of antique jewelry, nothing noticeable or obvious. The bloodstone and jasper are not chipped or cracked and secure in the mounting. The back is stamped STERLING SILVER. The pinstem and hinge are slightly stiff but still functions properly.
The brooch measures 5/8" tall and 1-7/8" wide and weighs 2.59 grams. The box is for display only.
I try to show an accurate picture of the item in my photographs and the written description. Please note the size given in the description, as images can often appear more substantial than the actual object.
