This lovely lava cameo brooch from the mid-Victorian era depicts a beautiful young woman's profile gazing to the right. The simple silver frame complements the brown carved lava. A great unisex brooch from the 1880s to add to your collection!

Cameo carving has an ancient history dating back to 3 century BCE Greece. Empress Josephine, Alexander the Great, and Queen Victorian were prominent cameo enthusiasts. They are typically carved out of hard stone, shell or coral, and lava and can be used as jewelry or objets d' art.

The cameo is in very good antique condition with minimal signs of wear. There are no marks or stamps. The lava is not chipped or cracked and is secure in the mounting.

The cameo measures 1-1/8" tall and 1" wide and weighs 6.71 grams. The box is for display only.

I try to portray an accurate representation of the item in the photographs and listing details. Please note the measurements in the description, as images can often make the item appear larger than the actual size.
