This is a very nice pair of old shoe buckles. Each single piece buckle sort of looks like two halves. The scrolls have a textured finish and from a distance they could be mistaken for the finer cut steel that they were probably fashioned after. It appears they have a light silver colored plating over the base metal which appears to be brass. These are unmarked but a nice example of the early buckles that were used to turn everyday shoes into something a bit fancier. I believe these are from the early 1900's.

They measure about 1 ¾” by 2 5/8” and they are in nice condition with age wear. If I am correct that these were silver plated over the brass then some of the plating has worn so some yellow shows and there is darkening which may have been done to help bring out the design or, it could be from age.

The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
