This is an old Columbia record for use on a cylinder phonograph. It is a two minute cylinder, made of made of a celluloid material with a cardboard liner and metal rim at the bottom and near the top. It must be played on a phonograph that is geared for two minute records and that has a reproducer with stylus specifically for two minute records. Even though it is a Columbia record it can be played on Edison phonographs as long as the requirements I previously stated are met. It comes with an old Columbia box without a lid. The box may or may not be the original box for the record. The title as described below is written on the outer edge and it also reads; Pat’d. July 29, ’02.
851 – “Fool Questions” – Song – Roberts
I believe this might be referring to Bob Roberts who recorded the Woodchuck Song (how much wood would a woodchuck chuck….) for Victor Records.
The cylinder is about 4 1/8” long and it fits snuggly on a standard phonograph mandrel. It is in very good condition with minimal wear to the grooved record. There is some surface rust to the metal inside. The sound reproduction cannot be guaranteed but from experience, it should play quite well with minimal distortion if used properly. It is being sold as-is.
The box has great graphics but it is soiled, has some stains and tears to the paper.
