This large menu is from the S.S. Alcoa Steamship companies whose ships during that time were the Cavalier, Clipper and Cosair. The cover has a colorful, tropical image of a young woman with a handful of fruits and more. There’s an insert inside which is attached with a gold colored cord. The first page lets you know this was for The Captain’s Dinner en route from Venezuela to Mobile Alabama. The next page, in English, is the menu which is quite varied with appetizer choices as simplistic as garden radishes to delicacies like foie gras and French pancakes with rum sauce. There were two entrée choices and a variety of vegetables and salads. Desserts ranged from cheese with saltine crackers to Charlotte Russe. The next page has the same menu but it appears to be in Spanish. The last page of the insert was for autographs.
The menu cover measures about 10” by 12 ½” in its closed state and each page of the insert measures about 8 ½” by 11”. The cover is in fairly good condition with minor edge and corner wear, creases and minimal soiling. The inner pages are basically clean with minimal wear.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
