This open, two seater sports car is an M.G. made by the Charles Wm. Doepke Mfg. Co., Inc. of Rossmoyne, Ohio. Doepke's Model Toys were authorized replicas of actual vehicles and were well constructed toys. This heavy duty cast metal car was among the last vehicles Doepke produced, introduced in 1954. It was sold as having steerable front wheels, semi elliptical rear springs and semi pneumatic tires. This has its original steering wheel, windshield frame, headlights, radiator grill and front and rear bumpers. The five original rubber tires are marked with the Model Toys logo and the Doepke name and are complete with their hubcaps. These were originally sold with gray primer and later they were marketed painted.
The car measures about 15 ½” long by 5 ¾” wide by 5 ½” to the top of the windshield frame. There are no cracks or other damage to the body of the car and the tires and hubcaps are in good original condition. It is not painted but I’m not sure if it is primed and worn or whether it has had the paint/primer removed. I see no evidence of red paint which was the most common color. It has not been sandblasted. There is no evidence of a decal having been on the dash so that would be considered “missing”. It is missing the tonneau cover and I believe the radiator cap is missing, there is a brass screw in it as a replacement. This is a heavy duty, well made toy weighing almost 5 pounds. It is being sold as is.
