This old tin once held Surbrug’s Golden Sceptre pipe tobacco. On the front of the tin is a sleeved arm with a wide cuff holding an ornate golden scepter. According to one side panel the tobacco was a blend of Perique Havana and North Carolina leaf and had been made by the company since 1861. The back of the tin has a seal and the line; The genuine bears the Signature. The other end panel has; M’f’y No. 16 2d D., N.Y. The hinged lid is metallic gold as is the bottom.
It measures about 2 ¾” high by 3 3/8” wide by 1 ½” deep and it is in very nice condition. It has good gloss and minor scratch wear. There is some residue across the top and partially down the sides which is probably from the tax stamp seal. The litho is crazed from age which can be seen better from some angles more than others.
