This wonderful old sand and gravel wagon is from the Kenton line of horse drawn vehicles that resumed production in 1939 and ran until 1954. The two horses, one black and one white connect to the green wagon that is marked Sand & Gravel on both sides. On the side of the wagon is a lever that releases the floor of the wagon to dump the load. The piece has finely spoked red wheels and a red frame. The lettering on the wagon and the hardware on the horses is enhanced with gold paint. A small driver is attached to a cord that is attached to the horses. It is marked; Made In U.S.A. on the post of the white horse’s hoof and also on the tongue of the frame. There is remnants of a paper label on the back of the wagon but not enough to read. What fun it would have been to find this under the Christmas tree!
It measures about 15” from horse nose to rear wagon wheel and about 4 ½” high at the horse’s ear. It has very good visual appeal and is complete and original. The paint is in very good condition with minimal wear and there is no damage to the cast iron. The small black wheels on the front of the horses are hard from age but in good, undamaged condition. The rein string is also in good condition.
