This old black and white, glossy photo shows the surfer Paul Strauch catching a wave, apparently at Queen’s Beach in Hawaii. Strauch was referred to as the Gentleman Surfer and he apparently created the Cheater Five and the Strauch Crouch. This appears to be a promotional photo with three iconic names in surfing. On the lower left corner is the information about the surfer. In the middle of the bottom it reads; Bud Browne’s Spinning Boards which was the 9th annual film by Browne which came out in 1961. On the lower right corner it reads; Compliments of Hobie Surfboards. A great piece of history, this is an original, period photograph.
The photo measures about 8 ¼” by 10” with the white boarder. It is in fairly good condition with minor edge and corner wear, light scuffs and a few thumbtack holes at the top edge, all but one in the margin area. There is residue of old double sided tape on the back from being in an album over the years.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
