These old medals depict two swimmers that appear to be neck and neck in a relay race. They are made of a non metallic metal, one with a gold colored plating, one with a silver colored plating and one with a bronze colored plating, presumably for first, second and third place. On the back of the silver and bronze medals there is a laurel sprig and at the bottom it reads; Italy. The gold one doesn’t have the same back and it doesn’t appear to have a country of origin but it has been inscribed B.V.S.A ’75. They all come attached to their original red, white and blue ribbon with a pin on the back. The pin fastener on the back has a c-closure. They also come in their original plastic boxes from William A. Lueschner Athletic Outfitters. A date of 1973 is penciled on the paper label on the back of each box.
The gold medal measures almost 1” in diameter, the silver medal measures about 13/16” in diameter and the bronze measures about ¾”. The ribbon portion measures about 1 3/8” wide. They are all in very nice condition however, the original foam in the plastic boxes has deteriorated and left a sticky residue on the back of the metal, including the pin of the silver medal. Some of the residue rubbed off with my finger and I suspect it could be cleaned off with a solvent but I have left them as they came to me. The boxes measure about 2 5/8” by 3 ¾” by 5/8” and they are in fair condition with some light scuff and scratch wear and as stated, the liners are rotting.
