The story of the rifleman soldiers, doughboy infantrymen of World War II lies here in this old hardbound book. Shots Fired in Anger paints the view of those men as told by George from his time in the 132nd Infantry Regiment at the Battle of Guadalcanal. Being written for his “gun owning friends” he presents several chapters on the combat tools used by both the Japanese and the American forces. Written by Lt. Col. John B. George the book starts with “Apology” by Major John B. George, Military Intelligence Section, General Staff, Far East Command Tokyo, Japan May 1947. The frontpiece by Tsurita and the line drawings throughout the book were by Hideo. This hardbound book was published by Small Arms Technical Publishing Co. of So. Carolina with a 1947 copyright by Thomas G. Samworth. There are 421 pages including the index with a few additional pages of advertising. It comes with the original dust jacket. On the inside hardcover front is a hand written name followed by U.S. Marine Corps, Jan. 1948. On the inside hardcover back is
a paper label from; Ray Riling Arms Collector Service of Philadelphia.
It measures about 6” by 8 ¾” by 1 3/8” and it is in good condition. The linen covered hardbound cover is clean with a tight spine and minimal edge and corner wear. The inside pages are clean with minimal edge wear. No pages are loose or missing. The dust cover has done its job in protecting the book but the jacket shows edge and corner wear and small tears.
