This is an old pottery flower frog with a colorful bird perched on a towering, white formation with holes for the flower stems. I would not presume to know what type of bird this is. To me it has qualities of many birds including a parrot, quetzal, pheasant and rooster. It has nice, slightly subtle glaze colors including maroon, yellow, pale green, dark green and bluish green. It has an impressed marked on the bottom that in part reads; Made in Japan. I believe this is probably from the 1920’s or 1930’s.
It measures about 8 3/4” tall and the base measures about 3 ½” by 2 ¾”. It is in very good condition with minimal wear and no damage. There is some age grazing on some areas of the glaze and there is a rust colored stain near the bottom of the base.
