This old leather purse is made of dark brown leather with a frame made of an early plastic sometimes referred to as Bakelite, Lucite or Catalin. The plastic is thick and slightly translucent and it has a rich butterscotch color. It has a nice swing style clasp that latches over the front bar. It has a chain handle that appears to be made of heavy brass links that have a ridged detail. The inside is one large compartment that probably had a fabric ling at one time. I haven’t found any identifying marks on it.
It measures about 7” wide across the belly by 6” to the top of the frame by 1 ¼” thick at the bottom with the front and back bulging out for plenty of room for stuff! It is in nice but used condition. The leather is was neglected for years and has stains and distress from age and dryness. The worst spot, on the front about an inch down from the bottom of the frame has cracking from dryness, nothing that goes clear through but the leather is weak there. The plastic has scuff and rub wear but it is not cracked. The holes that the brass rings go through are slightly enlarged due to years of wear. As previously stated this appears to have had a fabric liner originally which it doesn’t have now. It is in nice condition but not without faults and it is being sold as-is
