This is a small, decorative sewing or trinket basket. It is woven, possibly from a reed or bamboo. The lid is decorated with numerous glass beads that I believe are, at least in part, Peking glass. The beads vary in shape and color with some in translucent green, blue, orange or amber and opaque yellow. There are also numerous tokens or coins with oriental characters stamped on them. It is finished off with a cord tied in decorative knots and loops and a single wood bead with remnants of a silk like thread. It appears to be signed, in oriental characters, on the inside of both pieces. These often had a large glass ring so this might have had one at some time as well.
I believe this is from the 1920's - 1930's.
It measures about 5 ¾” in diameter by roughly 2 ¼” high. It is in fairly good condition but some of the wicker pieces seem to be broken which can be seen in the photos. Also, as previously mentioned it might be missing a large glass ring.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
