This folding menu is from the Dollar Steamship Line S.S. President Pierce and it is dated Tuesday, July 23, 1929. The cover of the menu has interesting graphics with a mountain and pack mules on one side and brick and stone buildings that look like a church or mission. The inside states that this was for the Adieu Captain’s Dinner, a time of merriment and partying. The menu is quite varied with Hawaiian dishes, sweetbreads, prime rib, frog legs and omelette au rhum as examples. Desserts ranged from the simplistic of mixed nuts and tropical dates to green mango pie and zabaoine. At the bottom it states that at midnight the clocks would be advance 23 minutes. The graphics on the right has an illustration of young couples dancing with the women with short bobbed hair of the period. On the bottom edge of the back it has a map showing the route of the Dollar Steamship Line and American Mail Line. This is a wonderful souvenir of the cruise ship as well as being a menu.
It measures about 5 7/8” by 8 ½” in its closed state, 12” wide when opened. It is in fair condition with minor edge and corner wear, creases and some stains and soiling. The gold of the front has discoloration.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
