This old toy is Howdy Doody and (Buffalo) Bob Smith at the piano. The colorful wind up features all of the main characters of the Howdy Doody show; Clarabell, Flub-A-Dub, Bob Smith and of course Howdy Doody. Besides being a fun toy it was also an advertisement for the Howdy Doody Show on NBC and for the Unique Art Mfg. Company. There are six other Unique Art toys pictured in the Peanut Gallery. Both Howdy doody and Bob Smith slip over posts that are attached to the piano. An attached key and the on/off lever are on the right side of the piano. This toy has good action when wound with Bob Smith rocking back and forth and Howdy jumping up and down, his arms swinging at his side. On the back of Howdy's back it reads; Sold under exclusive license from Bob Smith creator of Howdy Doody. On Bob's waist it's marked; Pats. Pend.
The piano stands about 5 1/2" high and 6 1/2" wide and 3 1/8" deep at the base. Howdy Doody stands about 8" tall. Overall it is in very good working condition with minimal wear, good color and gloss. The major scratches are on Bob Smith's sides from rubbing on the chair and one on his hat. Howdy Doody has some scratches on his forehead and ear and on his feet. The rest is light play wear with bright colors. There is a slight dent on the front of the chair where the bar that attatches to the piano rests.
