This great looking item is a vintage oil lamp filler. It would have been used in the late 1800's for topping off old oil and kerosene lamps. It is made of brass and copper and it has an attractive shape. These are typically found with nickel plating but this doesn’t look as though this one was ever plated. The fancy knob lid on the top unscrews to fill the bowl. A chain is attached to the spout and there is a small cap attached to a chain to keep the spout covered when it’s not being used. The small plunger in front of handle is depressed to allow air into the chamber while pouring out of the spout. The bottom is marked; Manning, Bowman & Co. 22. The company was located in Meriden, Connecticut in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

It measures about 4 ¾” tall to both the top of the filler cap and the spout. The base measures about 3 ½” in diameter and it measures about 7 7/8” across from end of spout to outer edge of the cast handle. It is in very nice condition with minimal wear. There are a couple of very small dents on the body and a few minor dents on spout cap. As previously stated this is not nickel plated. It may have been but if so this is the best job I’ve seen of nickel stripping. It has not been polished so it has a dull, aged appearance with minor discoloration. The chain and cap are grungy but both are non-magnetic and are probably brass.
