This beautiful soft paste vase has nice lines and a richly colored glaze that is often referred to as Majolica. The vase has open work handles and a flowing, slightly raised design that was so popular in the late 1800 – early 1900’s. Flower petal forms are represented at the flare of the base. The interior of the vase has a light turquoise glaze. On the bottom the vase is incised with numbers; 8350 and it is ink stamped; Austria.
It measures about 9 3/8” tall and about 5 3/8” across at the handles. It is in good condition with minimal wear and no cracks. There is a little roughness and a few tiny chips on the top rim which are shown in the photos. This does have some manufacturing imperfections. Although this is an attractive piece it doesn’t have the precise quality of some pieces of the period. The paint and glaze work is a little sloppy. Dark green paint flows over onto the light green area rather than being sharply defined. There are also places where the glaze was missed altogether so the gray of the raw soft paste shows.
