This old hat is simple but chic and appears to be made of a light mink which might be considered champagne, honey or blonde. I believe is would be considered a helmet style with the strips of fur encircling the hat like a lovely ladyfinger dessert. The strips taper slightly as they come to a subtle point at the center. The fur is slightly darker at the tips with a lighter color nap close to the hide. It has a fabric inner lining and a label that reads; Precious Furs by Marche and I believe it was purchased from The Bon Marche department store in 1960’s or 1970’s.
The opening measures about 21 ½” inside circumference and it’s about 8” high with a slightly domed crown. It looks nice but the hat is well worn and has several condition issues. The grosgrain ribbon band inside is stained, has some small cuts and a piece of fabric has been sewn over part of it possibly because the ribbon was irritating to the forehead. There are many areas where the fur pulled away from the lining and a few places where the hide has torn so the fur gaps open. I don’t know if this can be repaired and it is being sold as-is. The fur could possible be used as trim on another garment or other creative sewing project.
