This old sterling spoon has beautiful historic detail of all things California.
The main focus is the bowl which has a detailed image of Nuestra Señora Reina de los Ángeles Asistencia, a Spanish Mission that was originally founded in 1784. The lower edge of the bowl reads; Old Mission, Los Angeles, Cal.
The top of the handle features The Great Seal of The State of California and below that are the iconic bells of the San Gabriel Mission. The next section is a depiction of Yosemite Falls with the water cascading down the rock face and terminating with a bunch of grapes in the center. The section of the shaft below the grapes, I believe, is a representation of Wawona redwood tunnel tree and at the base is a car driving through the tree.
The back of the handle is also filled with detailed images of the State Capitol building, an Oil Gusher an ostrich (referencing the to the Cawston Ostrich Farm of So. Pasadena) and another bunch of grapes. The back of the bowl is without design.
It is marked with the word Sterling as well as having the hallmark of the R.Wallace & Sons Mfg. company of Connecticut.
It measures about 5 ¼” long and is in very nice condition with minimal wear.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
