The amount of detail in this old Chinese cork carving is truly beautiful. From the intricacies of the architectural elements of the large pagoda to the delicate trees and fronds of the plants it really is amazing to study. Two birds with white plumage that I believe are Chinese cranes accent the scene. The carving is encased in glass with a wooden frame which has a base with Oriental details. The frame has a red lacquered finish with blotches of black paint. On the bottom is a paper label that reads; Made in China with Oriental characters and handwritten numbers. I believe this is from the 1930’s - 1950’s.
Overall it measures about 6 ¼” high. The oval framed portion measures about 7 3/8” wide by 4 ¾” high by 1 3/8” deep and the base is about 7 7/8” wide by 2 7/16” deep. Overall it is in very nice condition with minimal wear. I can see no damage to the carving or to the glass. There is some minor edge wear to the paint and it looks like the glass is a little dirty inside.
