The smaller size of this old Chinese cork carving does not diminish the fact that it is beautifully detailed. A beautiful pagoda perched on an out cropping has intricate architectural details. The surrounding plants and trees are amazing. There are two birds with white and black plumage near the base that I believe are Chinese cranes. The carving is encased in glass with a wooden frame on a small base. The frame has a black lacquered finish. On the bottom is a paper label that reads; San You and another that reads; Made in China along with oriental characters and some numbers. I believe this is from the 1930’s - 1950’s. I have another cork carving listed for sale that is very much like this one. I have shown the two of them side by side in the last photo. They are being sold separately.
Overall it measures about 8” high. The oval framed portion measures about 4 1/8” wide by 5 ¾” high by 1” deep and the base is about 4 7/8” wide by 2 1/8” deep. Overall it is in nice condition with minor wear. There is a loose tree branch and a few small pieces near the bottom edge which I have noted in the photos. There appears to be no other damage to the carving or to the glass. There is some minor wear to the paint and it looks like the glass is a little dirty inside.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
