This old wind up is a happy clown busily juggling a plate and several tin balls. When wound by the attached key he rocks from side to side he balances a ball on a plate on his as he keeps everything else in motion. The rods in his hands have a two-ball dumbbell which spins as the clown moves. The rod coming from this nose has a tin plate with a tin ball dangling from a short piece of cord. The action is quite fun. The clowns face and hands are made of a composition material and the face is hand painted. He has a band of short orange hair across the back of his head. His clothes are made of a velveteen material and he sports a tin pocket watch from his lapel. His shoes are also made of tin. I find no markings on him but feel quite sure that he was made in Japan and is probably from the 1930’s.
The clown measures about 7 5/8” tall but overall the toy measures about 11” by 10 ¾” wide. Overall it is in very nice condition with minor wear. It is in working condition and you can see it in action on our Facebook page. There is some minimal crazing to the composition from age, some loose threads from unhemmed edges and minor soiling to the back of the jacket.
