This wonderful knit sweater was quite fashionable in its day. It’s a basic style cardigan sweater in a soft pale cream or off white that has been transformed into something rather eloquent with the addition of beautiful faux pearl seed beads in a variety of sizes and large pearlized buttons down the front. The floral bead design runs down both sides of the front and around the back at both the neckline and the bottom edge. Flowers of a slightly larger size decorate the top of the bodice on the front. There is another decorative rectangle near the crew style cuff of the sleeves and the entire field, front and back is dotted with two tiny beads which are all sewn on. The eight buttons down the front have a high sheen. The inside is fully lined with a sheer white fabric and the opening edge is trimmed with grosgrain ribbon. There is a label that reads; Chow’s Tailoring – 631 President Hotel Arcade – Nathan Road – Kowloon Hong Kong. The fiber content is not given but I think the yarn is, at least part, lambswool and that the silky lining is probably rayon. I believe this beautifully made garment is from the 1960’s.
There is no size on the sweater but it is a smaller size. It measures about 20” across the back at the bottom of the arm hole seams. The sleeves measure about 18” long from shoulder seam to bottom edge of the cuff and about 13” under arm to wrist. It’s about 20” in length measuring from the nape of the neck at the back and it measures about 16” across at the bottom edge of the sweater. It is in very good condition with minimal wear and no noted damage.
