This is an old bell that would have been found on any number of old counters, often with a little sign saying; Ring for Service. Whether at a hotel desk or next to the cash register of the general store this one is more ornate than many. The base is nickel plated cast iron with a very decorative design and it sets on three feet. The small dome is nickel plated steel and the knob on the top appears to be nickeled brass. Rather than striking the knob to ring the bell you turn it for a delicate chime, it’s not a loud “ding”. There is no maker or any other information on it.
To hear the ring of this search for us on Facebook or find a link to our Facebook page under "Our Favorite Links" on our Ruby Lane Home Page.
The base measures about 3 3/8” in diameter and 2” to the top of the knob. It is in good original condition with minor wear. The plating is good with minimal wear or discoloration. There’s about a 1” long bit of rust along the bottom edge of the dome and some on the bottom. The bell portions sets a little askew on the base. As previously mentioned (and as you can hear on Facebook) the ringing of the bell is not real loud. There is a small “claw” looking piece inside which I have noted in the photo. This could have been larger and is worn down or made this way. I haven’t been able to look at another to compare so I don’t know. It does ring but it is being sold as-is.
