This is a fun plush hand puppet created by Steiff. The ape goes by the name Mungo and he is made of a mohair plush with airbrushed details, fur around the face and bright blue glass eyes. The front of the body is cream colored and the back is a soft green. The hands are stitched to look like fingers. It does not have the button in the ear or the tag but it does have the heavy thread on the chest where the paper tag would have been and Mungo is well documented. I believe this is from 1959 to 1967.
It measures about 9” long by 10 ½” across the outstretched arms. Overall it is in very nice condition with minimal wear, soiling or discoloration. The bottom edge may appear frayed but it isn’t, it is the mohair fibers as it turns to make the hemmed edge.
