This old oatmeal box from the Armour Grain Co. of Chicago was a Free Sample. The graphics are nice with a happy elf like character holding a wheat shaft on two sides of the paper covered cylinder. Printed very faintly above the word “OATS” it reads; Rolled White. On one panel are the directions and a list of other Armour products and on the other panel it reads; The Only Quick Cooking Whole Oat Flakes. On opposing sides it also reads; This is a Free Sample and Not to be Sold. I find no date but would assume it to be from the early 1900’s.
It measures about 4 ¼” tall and 2 7/8” in diameter and is fairly good condition with minimal soiling. It appears the paper label was applied rather loosely to the cardboard which has allowed it to become quite wrinkled in some places, one side in particular which I have tried to show in the photos. It is empty so there are tears along the lid where it was opened.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
