This ceramic figurine is an old music box that plays If I Could Talk to the Animals from Dr. Doolittle. A wide-eyed chipmunk or squirrel gazes at the sight of a fancy birthday with three candles on the top. The brown rodent is wearing an orange shirt, a little white bib and a red and white birthday hat. The cake has two tiers with pink decoration and it’s sitting on a tree stump which is surrounded by green grass. The edge of the base looks like white bricks and the music box is housed inside of the round base. It is wound by rotating the plastic platform on the bottom. There is no on/off, the catchy song starts when it is wound and goes until it runs down. The plastic is marked Japan and stamped on the wood base it is marked Made in Japan. I believe this is from the 1960’s or 1970’s.
