This is an old tin wind-up military car. It appears to be a jeep type vehicle with lithographed, camouflage detail. The figures are stamped tine made in two pieces, tabbed together. There is a driver in the front seat and two men in uniform in the back seat, supposedly operating the guns that are mounted on the back partition on the front seat. Those guns pivot and appear to be cast lead. There is a tin, turreted gun which swivels, mounted behind the back seating area. The car has two-piece, stamped wheels with a set of dual wheels on the rear. There are also two smaller wheels in the front which are one piece. The “spare tire” cover is made of a single piece of stamped tin. The front axle has a slot on one side for minor adjustment so the car could go in a circle rather that straight but I don’t think the tab on the body of the car is bent correctly for it to operate properly. It has a coiled wire spring that operates the clockwork mechanism which is wound by the attached key.
I believe this is from the 1920’s or 1930’s but it is not marked and I have been unable to identify its maker. It has similarities to vehicles made by a couple of German companies but it is not un similar to a couple of American companies including pieces made by Marx in the 1930’s.
It measures about 9” long and 4 ¼” across the rear wheels and about 3 ¼” high. It is in good, working condition with light wear. There is a little pitting to the paint on the fenders and overall light scratch and scuff wear.
