This old savings bank features the colorful cartoon sailor Popeye. Popeye is written across the top and to the right of Popeye it reads; Daily Dime Bank. Little windows indicate the day of the week and the amount that has been saved. I have shown pictures of the bank when it was empty and then again after I inserted one dime. The slot for inserting the dime is on the top edge where it reads; Insert Dime Here - Corp. 1956 King Features Syndicate, Inc. The other side panels have some of Popeye’s friends including Olive Oyl, Swee’ Pea and hamburger loving Whimpy. This bank took no key. A door on the back reads; Press Down at $5.00. Once $5.00 has been deposited into the bank the door can be depressed so you can shake out your savings.
The tin bank measures about 2 5/8" square (with cut off corners) and 5/8" thick and is in nice condition with good gloss and bright colors. There is minor scuff and scratch wear especially along the edges. There also appears to be some areas of under paint rust along the left edge near Popeye’s fingers and also at the top right corner. The back has some scratches, crazing and small dents. As previously stated I have put a dime in and it appears to be in working condition.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
