This small porcelain bride and groom was probably from the 1930’s or 1940’s. The couple are hand painted and dressed in formal wedding attire. The bride has a green band around her head and a net veil. She holds a large single flower in the arm interlocked with her husband. He’s dressed in a matte black tuxedo with a top hat in his hand. Across the back it is incised; Japan. The come with their own fabric flower wedding arch which has a little bell at the top.
The couple measure about 3” tall and they are in fairly good condition with no damage to the bisque. There is something that looks like paint on the front of her dress and on the base in the front of his left foot. Her veil is no longer attached and there is some rust discoloration behind the flower. The arch measures about 5 ½” high by 4” wide. The flowers are yellowed and some are slightly brown from age. The ends of the metal wire are discolored and rusty from the moisture of the frosting no doubt. The bell is discolored and I’m not sure if the outside of it might have been gold at some time but the inside more silver than gold.
