This old piece of Masonic jewelry has been described as many things as well as being a fob for a watch chain. Beyond that there are several suggested uses such as holding a lodge card, a folded bill or perhaps a calling card but whatever the use it wouldn't have held much. It is hinged at the bottom and has a latch at the top. It is made of gold tone metal. The front has a nicely engraved edge and vertically chased background design with the relief symbol of a square, compass and letter “G” which represents Freemasonry. There is a space near the bottom that could be engraved. The back has the same decorative edge and vertical detail. Inside are two "clips" under which something could be placed. Each clip is stamped what appears to be R MFG.Co.
Closed, it measures about 21/4” including the loop by 1” wide. Overall it is in very nice condition with minimal signs of use wear. There are a few tiny dents on the back side.
