This is a set of old play money and even if the box were empty the box alone would be worth having for the fun graphics. The lid of this old cardboard box depicts a boy and girl engaging in high finance. The little girl is all dolled up in fancy dress-up clothes including a large hat with feather plumes. She has a box in one hand with her purse over her arm and her other hand is extended with money. She has a fancy doll carriage full of dolls and she has brought them shopping with her. She’s doing business with a young boy at a vegetable stand who is offering her a pumpkin. Besides pumpkins at 5c each he also has pears and potatoes. Inside the box is an assortment of play money cardboard coins. There are a fair number of 1c, 5c, 10c 25c and 50c coins but only 2 of the One Dollar coins. I have not counted the total number of the coins ad the box doesn’t indicate how many there originally were. This set was from The Ideal Line by the Ideal School Supply Co. of Chicago. I believe this is probably from the late 1930’s or 1940’s.
The measures about 6 ¾” by 8 ¼” by 1 1/16” and is in fair condition with light scuff wear, edge and corner wear, some soiling, and fading and damage to the top right corner but still fun to look at. Some of the “coins” have a small piece of paper glued to one side as shown in the photos.
