This old sterling silver rattle is also a baby’s teething ring and the birth record information has never been added. It is fashioned in the shape of a bell with an object inside that makes it rattle. It is nicely detailed with a weighted clock in the center. The numbers surround a blank circle which could have arrows engraved for the time of day a child was born. There is a ribbon draped across the top and down the sides of the bell. Across the top of the bow it reads; Birth Record. To the left of the clock is a place for the Month and on the right side is a place the Year. Near the bottom edge is a place for Lbs. and Oz. to be etched in. The bell is attached to a round, flat teething ring by a detailed strap with a buckle that is a stationary piece which is not operable. The top of the strap piece is marked; Sterling. The teething ring is made of a pink mother of pearl plastic material and the silver bell hangs inside of the ring rather than dangling outside. The back of the bell is marked Web Sterling. I believe this is from the 1960’s.
The bell portion including the loop at the top measures about 1 1/4" high by 1 1/8" wide and 7/16" thick. The teething ring portion measures about 8 3/8" in diameter. It is in very good condition with minimal wear and as previously stated it has not been etched or monogrammed.
