This close fitting skull cap hat has color and style. I’m not sure that my definition will be the correct terminology but the hat appears to be made of a slightly stiff netted twill that is maybe 5/8” wide which is sewn in an overlapping spiraling fashion to create the belled shape. Over the net is a sewn design of abstract flowers in muted lavender, rose pink, steel blue/gray and yellow with green leaves. A random scroll fills in around the flowers. The bottom edge is slightly flared and the front edge is turned up. At the back is a pale blue grosgrain ribbon bow and the same ribbon is sewn into the inside as a headband. There is no maker’s label. I believe this is from the 1920’s.
It measures about 7 ½”” in diameter on the inside, or about 21 ½” in circumference at the headband. It measures about 5” from the crown to the bottom edge. It is in nice but used condition with minor wear. The hat has some wrinkles which might be steamed out but I am unsure and will not attempt to do. The end piece of the “twill” near the bow at the back is frayed and the ribbon is wrinkled and lightly soiled.
