This old button hook was used in aiding a woman with the many shoe buttons on a pair of old shoes. It must have been a tedious job, especially on the stylish high top shoes that were popular in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. These hooks came in a variety of sizes with the smaller ones being used for glove buttons and the larger ones being for shoes. This hook has an attractive, sterling silver handle. The word “Sterling” is integrated into the design on both sides of the handle.
It measures about 5 ¾” in overall length and is in nice but used condition. There is nick wear on both the hook and the silver handle. There are wrinkles on the middle section of the handle that look like rings. I think this was probably caused by repeated wear and torquing. There are no splits in the silver nor any flex in the shaft.
